Wrist pain is a common presentation here at The Glen Back Care & Sports Therapy. Frequently it is associated with overuse situations or repetitive movements that the body is not accustomed to, generating an inflammatory response in the body tissues and subsequent pain.
One common cause of wrist pain is arthritis, involving any one of the many small joints located within the wrist itself. Older persons are more likely to suffer from arthritis, however there are a large number of different types of arthritis, some of which can affect younger people. Arthritis of the wrist is typically diagnosed via xray, which our practitioners can arrange for you free of charge.
Another common cause of wrist pain, this time on the thumb side of the wrist, is a condition called De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis. This condition involves inflammation of the sheath that contains the 2 tendons running over the wrist to the thumb. It is best managed with physiotherapy, application of ice packs, splinting and the avoidance of aggravating activities.
If you are suffering wrist pain, the first step is to have it examined by one of our caring, experienced physiotherapists, who will show you how you can be pain free and get back to the activities you enjoy. Call 95609393, or click on the 'book now' button on our website.
